Emergency Eye Care

Our eye doctors can treat many urgent and emergency eye problems. If you have a severe eye injury, call 911. For issues including pink eye, foreign objects in your eye we may be able to treat you during office hours. Call (562) 496-2020.

These general guidelines are not a substitute for complete professional attention by your doctors at Triangle Eyecare Optometry Long Beach or emergency care professionals. Please contact your doctor as needed.

Chemical burns to the eye(s):

  1. Do NOT Rub eye.
  2. Hold the eyelid open and pour fresh water over eye for at least 15 minutes. Water should flow from the inner areas of the eye next to the nose to the outer area to avoid contamination of the other.
  3. Prompt medical care is required.

Particulate or small object in eye:

  1. Do NOT rub eye.
  2. OBJECT UNDER UPPER LID: pull upper lid away from eyeball and down over lower lid. Hold. Allow tears to wash away object.
  3. OBJECT UNDER LOWER LID: pull lower lid away from eyeball. Hold. Allow tears to wash away object. Seek medical attention, if required.

Cuts of the eye or eyelid:

  1. Bandage lightly and apply cold compresses.
  2. DO NOT try to remove an object stuck in the eye.
  3. DO NOT apply pressure to the eye.
  4. Seek medical attention immediately.
